About this event

Thanks to a grant from the New York State Canal System, Mohawk Maiden Cruises is partnering with Hudson Crossing Park to provide a unique Champlain Canal adventure - half history cruise, half environmental hike every Tuesday, June through October. Each experience will be limited to 12 participants. Six will board the Caldwell Belle and start with a double lock-through of Lock C5 before heading north to Eagle Point, with historians from Hudson Crossing Park providing lesser known tales of the Champlain Canal and the old Saratoga region.

The other six will set off on foot on an an easy 1.5 mile hike along Hudson Crossing Park’s trails, guided by Park volunteers or staff who will share the park’s history of environmental stewardship efforts and information regarding the park’s wildlife. From the industrial and PCB pollution of the Hudson River and Champlain Canal to the more recent efforts to control invasive species and re-introduce native plants, the hike will provide an eye-opening understanding of the importance of responsible land stewardship efforts along the canal system.

The two groups will meet and change places at Eagle Point, which overlooks the scenic Northumberland Falls. The passengers will finish their experience with a hike, and the hikers will also experience a double lock through before returning to the dock.

This rare opportunity is offered free to the public thanks to the partnership efforts of Hudson Crossing Park, Mohawk Maiden Cruises, and the New York State Canal Corporation's "On the Canals" program.

Registration is required, as spaces are limited. Go to the Mohawk Maiden Cruise or Hudson Crossing Park website for more information and to register.
