The holiday season is full of temptation. Holiday cookies, party food, alcohol. If you’re watching your weight, there are some easy things you can do to keep from overindulging this season.
It’s easy to mindlessly eat while socializing with friends and family. Try to position yourself away from the food so that you don’t have easy access. The more effort you need to go through to get food means you will be more likely to think before eating.
Plan ahead and be sure to eat before heading out. You don’t ever want to arrive to an event hungry. If it’s a dinner you’re attending, have a small snack ahead of time so you won’t overeat.
Use the smallest plate you can find. Then only eat what you can fit on the plate. Portion control is the key to not letting the holidays affect your waistline.
Make wise choices in the food. Go for the vegetables without the dip, or even the shrimp cocktail. Choose the one dessert that will satisfy your cravings, then take a small portion.
Be aware of your alcohol consumption. Alcohol is not a calorie free beverage, and it won’t fill you up like food. Set a limit for how many drinks you will have, and stick with it.
If you’re cooking, look for healthy substitutes. There are easy ways to modify most recipes to make them better for you, and lower in calories.
Most of all, remember what the season is about, spending time with friends and family. Focus on that rather than the food and you can enjoy the holidays guilt free!
